Quan Nem Ninh Hoa – Sacramento

Sorry for the longer than usual hiatus. It has been a busy end of the year! Can you believe it, 2018 is almost over. What da heck happened to the time? In this episode of The Constant Wobbler we talk about Quan Nem Ninh Hoa in good ole Sacramento. I found out later that they have a location in West Covina. This will come in handy when I am in Los Angeles visiting family. 🙂

Vietnamese iced coffee ($3.25)

The Mrs. has been on a drink kick as of late and Vietnamese Iced Coffee was on the menu. It had a good amount of strength to it and was not too sweet. Whenever it is too strong we milk that sucker all day.

House Special #1 for two- 8 rice papers, 4 charbroiled ground pork skewers, 2 fermented pickled pork, 8 slim crispy rolls, angle vermicelli noodles, assorted vegetables, homemade sauce with roasted peanuts topping ($19.95)

One of the things they are known for is their build your own spring rolls. It comes with the rice papers and warm water receptacle for your dipping pleasure. This is one of those things you sort of take for granted when you order it already made and assembled. Putting these together is no easy feat. Respect goes out to all those chef’s I overlooked over the years making pristine spring rolls, specifically Brodard comes to mind.

The display of food you get with this combination is impressive and it almost looks too nice to touch. We were pretty eager to get this diy party started.

As you can see, I am a complete noob when it comes to this process. Just like almost anything food related, I tend to want way too many things all at once.

My first spring roll did not look very impressive. But the thought was as long as it tastes good, it doesn’t matter what it looks like. And it did luckily. These weren’t as good as the old Brodard in the Westminster area. I saw they moved to a different location in Fountain Valley now. We have not visited in a while. Maybe we need to do a comparison taste test!

Hi Tieu Dac Biet – Pork cake, shrimp, quail egg, and season pork over rice noodles ($9.25)

Whenever a bowl of noodles is nearby, the Mrs. has to have one. The bowl did not disappoint. With an aroma spanning the length of the restaurant, your lungs get the first crack at it. The broth exudes a deep, satisfying quality. Taking it all in makes me think of home cooked meals and comfort. Even though there was nothing wrong with the noodles, I would come back for the spring rolls.

Final Thoughts

There is no doubt I would come back here for the spring rolls and maybe another new dish. It’s pretty fun playing with your food, especially when it is encouraged. When I found out they have a location in West Covina, I already thought about the next visit with my family. What places comfort your soul?
