Have you ever been to a town that makes it seem like you transported into another plane of existence or to be less dramatic, another state? That’s what the little cute town of Niles in Fremont did to me and my lady the other day. Think super small old town with mom and pop antique shops and a silent film museum. Since I am relatively new to the bay area, I had no idea this even existed. Naturally, what led us to this quaint area was the food at Nature’s Microcreamery and Soul Cafe.
Nature’s Microcreamery and Soul Cafe serves breakfast and brunch/lunch type food with ice cream!
We thought it was cool we could get a healthy breakfast and then top it off with some ice cream after. They offer some interesting flavors like Honey Matcha Tea, Orange Cardamom, and Honey Lavender.
Before we picked our ice cream flavor we wanted to get something hot to drink and try their food. Green tea is strong in this one. If you don’t like your green tea a little bitter this will turn you off. My partner in crime did not enjoy this very much. Some sugar would have been a smart move on our part.
We recently purchased a Vitamix and every time we go out it’s impossible not to compare what we make at home with what we get elsewhere. It was good, but boy do we love our Vitamix. Before we were using a Nutribullet and the difference is night and day. Banana is prevalent in this one.
The simple Sunshine Toast appeared to be an obvious choice. We love all those ingredients. It was fine. We wished it packed a little more punch. You can add bacon for an extra $1.50 and I think it would have made it a lot more enjoyable. There was a little too much sweetness, maybe due to the green sauce and the salty bacon probably would balance it out.
Last we ordered a BBQ Chicken Panini. Have you ever been to California Pizza Kitchen and ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza? This was that exact flavor profile, except in the form of a panini. Luckily for us we like the bbq chicken pizza from CPK so this ended up being our favorite bite of the day. Again, the green sauce added a little sweetness and the barbecue sauce also is a little sweet, but we took it down nevertheless.
Remember those interesting ice cream flavors I mentioned before? Yeah, we didn’t order any of them. We went boring because we wanted to utilize the rest of the Matcha Latte on more neutral ice cream flavors like vanilla and chocolate. I know, BORING. But…it makes them pop with green tea! We learned this amazing flavor combination from AS B-Dama in Oakland.
The bitterness disappears when pairing it with sweet vanilla ice cream and it becomes this smooth, silky melt in your mouth gift from God. Try it at AS B-Dama and your world will turn upside down.
We came to Niles with pretty high expectations. This could be due to our hunger levels and wanting to match the level of excitement the small town feel gave us to the quality of the food. Our meal at Nature’s Microcreamery and Soul Cafe unfortunately overall, didn’t match our self-imposed hype. Nothing was bad, it just didn’t knock our socks off. We’ll probably come back one day when we want to walk around and check out more of the shops in town and maybe venture to the lake nearby.
Anyone else been to Niles? Any hidden gems we should check out?
